Brian’s picks – June 8

1) If your youngsters are inspired by the big screen’s Captain Jack Sparrow, then another swashbuckler of the high seas might float their boat. A character by the name of Captain Paul will resurrect the golden age of pirates via tales and sea shanties in the free presentation of “The Pirate Show” at noon June 15 at the Donner Park shelter house near 19th and Lafayette streets in Columbus. Co-presented with the Columbus Area Arts Council and the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department. Information: 812-376-2539 or artsincolumbus.org.

2) The local nonprofit YES Cinema is pushing its children’s-oriented summer flicks big time. And why not when you’re rolling in such publicized movies as “Cars 3,” scheduled at press time to open June 15. In this installment, legendary Lighting McQueen finds himself pushed out of the sport that he loves and hoping to steer himself back into the game. Information such as times and tickets: 812-378-0377 or yescinema.org.
