Police share warning about door-to-door sales

Columbus police are investigating a complaint of suspicious person going door to door selling alarm systems in several neighborhoods in the northern part of the city.

The worker claimed to be selling the systems for Vault Security and advised the homeowner he had registered with the police department, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

While there is a company called Vault Security located in Texas, the police department has no record of anyone registering to solicit in Columbus, Harris said.

Due to the large number of ongoing scams, please report any suspicious activity to law enforcement and do not give out personal information or let anyone into your home who you do not know, Harris said.  All solicitors must register with the police department in advance and are issued identification paperwork showing they are registered.

To make a report about the individuals, call CPD dispatch at 812-379-1689.
