Stormy weather: Area receives 2.78 inches of rain overnight

Greene’s mother, Debbie, said her daughter took the photo on her cell phone on as the two walked out of the house at abut 7:30 a.m. and found this view from the front of the home.  Julie Greene works at the Bartholomew County Courthouse in Columbus.

The Columbus city utilities reported this morning that rain gauges at the city’s water plant recorded 2.78 inches of rain from 7 a.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. today.

The National Weather Service is continuing its flood warning for Bartholomew County and northern Jennings County after they estimated 3 to 4 inches of rain had fallen over the area overnight.

Cities within the flood warning area include Columbus, North Vernon, Hope, Elizabethtown, Hartsville, Jonesville, Hayden, Newbern, Butlerville, Azalia and Country Squire Lakes.
