Billy E. Hughes, 83, of Evansville, passed away June 9, 2017, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana, of an illness. He was born in 1934 to Russell and Mary Madeline (Polins) Hughes in Bridgeport, Illinois. After graduating from Bridgeport High School, Bill began working for the railroad.

While working for B&O, Bill joined the Masonic Temple. He was a longstanding Shriner and member of The Hadi Temple in Evansville. After 44 years, Bill retired from CSX as a train dispatcher and moved to Evansville. Once retired, he continued competitive bowling and became an avid golfer. He was an active member of the Hadi Golf League and completed a 19-year second career working at Wesselman’s Par 3 Golf Course.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Norma L. (Kettery) Hughes.

He is survived by his daughters, Holly Pate (Scott) and Mary Hammons; step-daughter, Karla Orender; step-son, Dennis Abbott; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2017, and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Sympathy wishes may be expressed at www.titzerfuneralhomes.com.
