Local man arrested after domestic disturbance

COLUMBUS, Indiana — A Columbus man was arrested on domestic battery and strangulation charges after a domestic disturbance was reported.

Columbus police were sent to an apartment in the 1100 block of Kevin Drive at 2:10 p.m. Saturday where they spoke to the victim who had visible facial injuries, said officer Alyson Rech, Columbus Police Department spokeswoman.

The victim told officers she was choked and had the house phone taken away from her while she tried to call 911, Rech said.

Officers spoke to the suspect, Kevin C. Montgomery, 34, and arrested him on preliminary charges of strangulation, domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime, Rech said.

Montgomery is being held in lieu of $17,500 bond at the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
