Police: Suspect attempts to swallow heroin prior to arrest

A local man was arrested on several charges after he is accused of attempting to swallow drugs prior to his arrest.

Officers Brandon Decker and Wes Dodge were patrolling in the 3100 block of Washington Street when they saw Michael D. Neville, 55, 5137 N. Denny St., in a parking lot of a local gas station.

The officers confirmed Neville had a pending arrest warrant out of Bartholomew County, said Officer Alyson Rech, Columbus Police Department spokeswoman.

As Decker and Dodge approached Neville, they saw him put something in his mouth, Rech said. As Neville was arrested, he spit out a folded dollar bill, which contained heroin, Rech said.

Neville was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of heroin, obstruction of justice and the arrest warrant, Rech said.
