Services and studies

First Baptist — The Rev. Dave Doles will deliver the message, “Mountains and Mustard Seeds,” with Scripture from Matthew 17:14-21 at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus. Music worship will be led by a vocal solo. Child care is available for infants. Older children will leave the service to discuss “Rebekah and Isaac” as found in Genesis 24. Classes for all ages will begin at 10:45 a.m. Children’s Sunday school will learn about “Justice and Jubilee” with Scripture from Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

The Mending Ministry will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Four Seasons Retirement Center, 1901 Taylor Road, Columbus, to do mending for the residents.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “My Yoke is Easy, My Burden is Light,” during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh. Scripture will include Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49 and 58-67, Romans 7:15-25 and Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. and Fellowship is at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study is on hiatus for the summer.

First Presbyterian — The Rev. Sharon Williams will give the sermon, “Signs,” based on Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, 58-67 and Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30 during the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St., Columbus. Infant and toddler care is available 9:15 to 11 a.m. The Men’s and Women’s Support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays and a second Men’s Support group for working age men meets at 6:15 a.m. Monday.

Those in need of a meal are invited to the hot meals offered at 5 p.m. Friday through the glass doors on Franklin Street. We are an LGBTQ-friendly church.

First Christian — The church will host the South Central Indiana Men’s Fellowship on July 25 at 531 Fifth St., Columbus. The meal starts at 6:30 p.m. and the program follows at 7:15 p.m. The Rev. Brian Scott of Mt. Auburn Christian Church will be the speaker. Information: 812-343-0179.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will bring the message, “God’s Yoke,” at the 9 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. Scripture will include Matthew 11:25-30. Teresa Covert will give the morning children’s message. There will be a commissioning prayer for Pastor Scherer-Berry and her daughter for their upcoming mission trip to Uganda.

The Walking Group meets at 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at FairOaks Mall, 2380 25th St., Columbus. Thursday’s prayer group meets at 10 a.m. at the church and is led by Barb Hedrick.

The United Methodist Mountain Mission donations truck will pick up July 18 at the church. Items should be at the church by July 17.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd., Columbus. The message will be “The Question We Long to Hear” from Matthew 20:29-34. The children’s program meets during the service.

There is a new six-week women’s small group meeting from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesdays at the church. This group is led by Barbara Gardner. Lessons are stand alone with no book needed; just bring your Bible.

The youth will be celebrating the last week of summer vacation with a day of fun at Holiday World. Sign up is going on through July 16 at the church.

Westside will host a blood drive through the Indiana Blood Center from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Sign up at the church.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — The Rev. Lee Dorsey and Fairlawn Chancel Choir will lead worship and music during the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 2611 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus. Fellowship time with refreshments will immediately follow. Child care for ages newborn to kindergarten is offered during the service and fellowship.

A small group study is being offered to deepen relationships with God by studying the book “Sacred Rhythms” by Ruth Haley Barton.

Men of all ages are invited to attend the Men’s Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. today.

This month, Fairlawn will be accepting donations of canned vegetables for Love Chapel.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — Robert Aponte will discuss racial bias during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd., Columbus.

Flintwood Wesleyan — Sunday service times are: Amplify (non-traditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus. Sunday school classes begin at 10 a.m. in their regular rooms. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. The evening service begins at 6 p.m.

The Prayer Team will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Adult Bible study will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The youth will meet when special activities are scheduled.

Thursday will be the monthly Senior Adult Ministries lunch for the over 55 group. Activities will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thursday: Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

The first day of GLOW (formerly JAM) will begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Central Christian — Everyone is invited to the concerts that are from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, 5 to 9 p.m. July 15 and 6 to 8 p.m. July 16. Enjoy Christian bands, praise and worship at Freedom Field, just off East Oak Street in Seymour.

Events

First Baptist 5K Race — The annual 5K race will be Sept. 16, starting at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus. All proceeds will go to Love Chapel. Registration information is available in the church office. Information: 812-376-3321.

Hilltop Christian Camp Men’s Retreat — The Rev. Mike Gillespie, a retired minister and former senior pastor at East Columbus Christian Church, will speak at Hilltop Christian Camp’s Men’s Retreat on Aug. 11. The camp is located at 6014 Hamilton Creek Road, Columbus. Gillespie speaks at 7:30 p.m. Check-in time for the retreat begins at 5 p.m. Cost is $20, with registration deadline Aug. 9. Flintwood Wesleyan — The Annual Harold Carr Memorial Golf Scramble will be July 15. Lunch will be served at noon with tee time at 1 p.m. Fee to play is $45, which includes lunch, 18 holes of golf with cart, sleeve of golf balls, prizes and four mulligans per person.
