Charles Edward England Sr., 79, of Columbus, passed away at noon on July 8, 2017, at his home.

Charles was born April 3, 1938, in Edmonton, Kentucky, the son of Earl and Ora Garrett England. He married Carolyn Hubbard on June 11, 1958.

Charles was a charter member of Parkside Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and led congregational singing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and was previously employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2003 after 36 years of service.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Parkside Baptist Church with Dr. William Bailey officiating. Military rites will be performed by the U.S. Navy and Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Parkside Baptist Church “Together We Build” Fund.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; sons, Charles (Pam) England Jr. of Surprise, Arizona and Anthony (Cindy) England of Taylorsville; a daughter, Beverly (David) Maple of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Adrienne England, Ashley Glasgow, Laura Taylor, Alexandra Platt, Andrew Hensley, Emily England and Anthony England Jr.; step-grandchildren, Justin and Jordan Huff and Allison Dillard; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jeremiah Benjamin England; and brothers, Ernie England and Bobby England.
