North grad tied for lead in Indiana Open

Columbus North graduate Michael VanDeventer fired a 4-under-par 67 Monday and is tied for the lead after the opening round of the Indiana Open Championship in West Lafayette.

VanDeventer, who will be a senior at Ball State, started with a 33 on the back nine at the Ackerman-Allen Course and finished with a 34 on the front nine. He is tied with Jake Brown of Carmel and Brian Maurer of Richmond.

Two other North grads will have to battle to make the cut. Ian Coffey, who will be a senior at St. Francis, is tied for 74th after a 76, and Christian Fairbanks, who will be a senior at Indiana University, is tied for 125th at 80.

Harrison Lake Country Club pro Andrew Stolze is tied for 103rd at 78. Brown County graduate Aubrey Seaman is tied for 148th at 83.

Golfers will play the Purdue-Kampen Course for today’s second round.
