Salons, shelter team to fight domestic violence

Staff Reports

Turning Point Domestic Violence Services in Columbus is collaborating with local salons for a free, one-hour training session on domestic violence.

Any salon owner, stylist or educator can participate in called Cut It Out: Salons Against Domestic Abuse, a Facebook Live event at 5 p.m. Monday. The video will give a brief introduction to Turning Point services, definitions and statistics on domestic violence and a detailed look at a Cut It Out training. The audience may ask questions and interact with the speaker.

Salon professionals are in a position to recognize the signs of abuse in their clients because of the close proximity and the relationship between stylists and clients, Turning Point said.

Cut It Out training provides each participant with the information about domestic violence, awareness materials and what role a salon professional can play. Each salon that completes the training and will be recognized as a Cut It Out establishment and each stylist will receive a Certificate of Attendance and Training.
