Silent auction benefits county history museum

The third annual silent auction to benefit the Jennings County Historical Society’s museum in Vernon is underway, and more donations are being sought to sell.

The historical society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Jennings County history. It operates a museum in the North American House, a gift shop and multiple events that bring in more than 37,000 tourists to Vernon every year.

Each year the silent auction serves as a fundraiser to defray operating costs of the museum, located in the historical society building that was built in 1838 as a stage coach inn.

People can bid on items in the auction now through Oct. 14. To bid on an item, go to the museum at 134 E. Brown Street in Vernon between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. The museum also is open on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

To donate an item for the auction or for more information, call the museum at 812-346-8989.
