Margaret Ann Essex

COLUMBUS

Margaret Ann Roth Essex, 85, of Columbus, passed from this life at 3:32 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mrs. Essex was a member of First United Methodist Church, Columbus North High School Booster Club, Harrison Lake Women’s Golf Association, Whip-Poor-Will Garden Club and Psi Iota Xi Philanthropic Sorority.

She was a life member and a former board member of Girl Scouts of America.

A sports enthusiast, she enjoyed all Columbus North High School and Purdue sports and the Indianapolis Colts.

Margaret and her husband Lewis enjoyed traveling and had visited all seven continents.

Her life’s joy was spending time with her family.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Howard Boles officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 10 a.m. to time of service at the church Saturday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Margaret was born in Indianapolis, September 26, 1931, to Russell G. and Jessie M. Brisentine Roth.

She married Lewis W. Essex on June 20, 1954.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years; children, Stephen S. Essex of Columbus, LuAnn Essex (Randy Weinantz) Burt of Edinburgh, Michael G. (Leah) Essex of Columbus and Patricia M. (Mark) Johnson of Columbus; grandchildren, Scott (Stephanie) Essex, Sean (Kawana) Essex, Mitchell Essex, Angie (Andy) Russell, Dan (Natalie) Burt, Aly Burt, Brittany (Zach) Purtlebaugh, Adria Essex, Kylah Essex, Michael Hooker, Lyndsay Johnson, Chase Johnson, Emma Johnson and Nash Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Sue (Jim) Paris.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Roth.
