James Russell Phegley

James Russell Phegley, 70, of Columbus, died at 3:53 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at the Richard A. Roudebush V.A. Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Jim retired from Cummins after working over 34 years as a machinist. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged after his service. He enjoyed water skiing and basketball, especially IU basketball. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Chris Gardner officiating. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Freetown Cemetery.

Jim was born on October 18, 1946, in Seymour, Indiana, to the late Russell and Elvina Weekley Phegley.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sandra; children, Dawn (Chris) Gardner of Seattle, WA, Leticia Miller of Indianapolis and Randy (Jessica) Phegley of Columbus; grandchildren, Xixi and Jing Gardner, Hanna Wilson, Cash Miller, Grace, Gavin, and Alexandra “Reese Cup”; sister, Betty (Roger) Fox of Columbus; brother, Rick (Monique) Phegley of Freetown; and several nieces and nephews.
