Man taken into custody at State Road 46 bridge incident

COLUMBUS, Ind. –Columbus police, firefighters, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies and ambulance personnel took a man who was possibly threatening suicide into custody at the State Road 46 and Interstate 65 interchange.

The incident began at about 11 a.m. this morning when the man was reported to be on the bridge on the city’s west side. Officers stopped traffic going on to the interstate for about a half hour as negotiators talked with the man and a bucket truck was used to take him off the bridge.

The man surrendered to authorities at about 11:40 a.m., just before heavy rain began in the Columbus area.
