Shelbyville man accused of multiple child exploitation, pornography charges

SHELBYVILLE — The Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force has arrested a Shelbyville man on allegations of child exploitation and possession of child pornography.

James Mohler, 31, Shelbyville, was arrested at the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday and is charged with two Level 5 felony counts of child exploitation and 12 Level 5 felony counts of possession of child pornography, Indiana State Police said. He is also charged with six Level 6 felony counts of possession of child pornography, Indiana State Police said.

An investigation began in February 2017 leading detectives to obtain a search warrant for a residence on Cheney Street in Shelbyville, said Indiana State Police. During the investigation, detectives learned of Mohler having sexual contact with an unidentified 12-year-old female and are asking anyone with information about that encounter to contact Detective Ginger Marshall at 317-899-8577.

The Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is made up of troopers from the Indiana State Police as well as Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers.
