Letter: Successful fundraiser shows people are good

Columbus

What a wonderful community we live in, one where people are always willing to help other people. This was definitely the case Aug. 12 when our Hoosier Mustang Club conducted its initial Summer Slam Car Show.

Our first challenge was to find a new location, rather last minute, as the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center closed. This had been our site for six years. A local company, Master Power Transmission, stepped up and allowed us to use its facilities on 10th Street for our show at no charge. Centra Credit Union donated $1,000 to be our corporate sponsor. The Republic, QMIX and Yes Cinema made sure we had advertising. Local businesses and several businesses in neighboring towns donated cash, door prizes and goody bag items. The Columbus Area Visitors Center provided bags for participants.

We also were blessed with a beautiful day for the show with 44 club members showing up to work, 92 beautiful cars registered, excellent vendor food and a good time had by all.

Thanks to all participants, the club was able to donate more than $3,600 to our local Love Chapel, a charity that provides for many of our Columbus families. People are good. I just wish the rest of the nation could believe that.
