City native swimmer wins bronze medal

Columbus native Michael Brinegar won the bronze medal in the 800-meter freestyle Friday night in the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships.

Brinegar was seeded fifth going in, but dropped nearly three seconds off his seed time to finish in 7 minutes, 57.22 seconds. His USA teammate, Andrew Abruzzo, won the gold in 7:54.58.

Brinegar, who swims with the Mission Viejo (California) Nadadores, will swim the 1,500 freestyle Monday evening, the final day of the competition.
