Westport group hosts festival

The three-day Westport Kiwanis car show and BBQ festival opens Friday.

Opening night will include crowning of the Tiny Miss and Mr. Westport BBQ at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Concessions open at 7 p.m. followed by the Movie in the Park program, showing of the “Night at the Museum 2” film at the ball diamond.

The 18th annual Heat in the Street car show is Saturday, with registration from 8 a.m. to noon in the Westport Community Building, with 100 trophies awarded in four categories at 4 p.m: Vehicles manufactured prior to 1960, those built from 1960 to 1985, model years 1986 to the present, and motorcycles/all-terrain vehicles.

The first 75 car owners to register for the show will receive a free T-shirt.

Cost for early registrants is $15, while those who register at the door is $20. Early registration can be done online at westportkiwanisclub.com.

Heat in the Street will include a 50/50 drawing and a $50 door prize every 20 minutes. Other activities include a kids carnival, kids pedal tractor pull and tractor show and 5 p.m. concert.

Sunday’s activities include a 2 p.m. Jungle Safari parade, 3 p.m. Community Church Service and 4 p.m. performance by the Woodsmen Quarter.
