Driver without gun permit arrested after loaded .357 found under truck seat

Columbus police arrested a local man on several charges including possession of a handgun without a permit after his vehicle was stopped for not having a license plate.

Columbus Police Officer Travis Harbaugh saw the vehicle at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday traveling near Mapleton Street and State Street and determined the driver, Bryan M. Alvidrez, 22, Columbus, did not have a license, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers also determined there was a Jennings County warrant pending for Alvidrez’ arrest, Harris said.

As Alvidrez was arrested, officers found a loaded .357 revolver under his truck seat and determined he did not have a permit for the handgun, Harris said.

Alvidrez was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle without receiving a license, the warrant and possession of a handgun without a permit, jail officials said.
