Single-vehicle accident causes power outage

A single-vehicle accident was responsible for a power outage on the northeast side of Columbus.

At about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Cheryl L. Williams, 2673 Doup Drive, Columbus, was traveling south on Marr Road near Heritage Road when her tires got into loose gravel on the ride of the road, causing her to lose control and hit the pole and snap it in half, said Columbus Police Department officer Angie Owens.

Williams was not distracted and suffered no injuries, Owens said. The vehicle’s airbag deployed.

Duke Energy arrived on the scene to restore power. The accident caused 172 homes to be without power as of 2 p.m. Sunday, said Duke spokesman Chip Orben.
