John Peter Sohn

COLUMBUS

John Peter Sohn, 92, of Taylor Road, died September 10, 2017, at his home.

John was born July 16, 1925, in Columbus, the son of Harry Herman and Virginia Wiles Sohn. He married Jane Dungan July 29, 1950.

He was a lifelong resident of Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1943. After graduation he served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945, where he was a pilot trainee. John then attended DePauw University before graduating from Purdue University with a degree in engineering. He was a fraternity member of Beta Theta Pi.

John retired from Arvin Industries after 38 years of service and having served on the Board of Directors for 15 years.

For 30 years, John and his wife, Jane, enjoyed spending their winters at Hilton Head. While there, he especially enjoyed their walks on the beach, golfing and their many friends. Each year they would return to Grandview Lake where John loved to sail on his boat and spend time with all of his Columbus friends.

A private memorial service for John will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; sons, John Brent (Angie) Sohn of Columbus and Daniel (Ann-Katrin) Sohn of Nykvarn, Sweden; daughter, Suzanne (Mitchell) Hilderbrand of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Jonas Sohn, Emil Sohn, Rachel (Will) Barnes, Jill Sohn, Elliot (Tessa) Hilderbrand, Royce Hilderbrand and John Austin Hilderbrand; great-grandchildren, Cora Barnes and Mary Ann Barnes; and his four-legged best friend, Petie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Nancy Capehart and Mary Ann Gardner.
