Billie Wayne Stringer

Billie Wayne Stringer, 62, of Nashville, Indiana, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017, at his home.

Billie was born March 31, 1955, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Billie Joe and Loretta Mae Collins Stringer. He married Kathy J. Black June 29, 1985.

Billie was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with 1st of the 505th 82nd Airborne Infantry, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Billie was a longtime carpenter working with Claude Wright at Columbus Construction and with Emerick Construction in Columbus.

Billie had many interests in life; some of his fondest were spending time with his boys and grandchildren, including the love of his life, his granddaughter, Kierstin, aka “Kerosene”, watching his boys race their dirt bikes and quads, fishing with his buddies and grandsons, and woodworking.

Billie is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathy; children, Ernie (Andi) Stringer of Nashville, Billy (Kelly) Watkins of Columbus, and Shawntaa Raleigh of Puma, Ohio; grandchildren, Hunter, Skyler, Asher, Kierstin, Trent, Damian, Samantha, Grace, and Sheldon; sisters, Charlotte (Ed) Williams of Columbus, Maggie Richardson of Columbus, and Brenda Stringer of Nashville; brothers, William Douglas Stringer of Beech Grove, Ernest Dean Stringer of Columbus, and Joe (Lill) Wachtstetter of Nineveh; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Billie was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherri Mae Stringer; and his mother-in-law, Mary Kathryn Black.

A celebration of life gathering of family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 8th, at the Twin Oaks Shelter House at the Paynetown State Recreation Area, 4850 South State Road 446, Bloomington, Indiana 47401.

Military honors will be presented by the Indiana Army National Guard Honor Guard at 2 p.m. Sunday.
