Dining fundraiser will aid slain officer’s family

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations, including the Columbus restaurant at 1900 E. 25th St, will participate in a Dining to Donate event to help the family of a Southport police officer who was killed in the line of duty.

On Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., participating Applebee’s restaurants will donate 15 percent of each participating party’s bill to the Lt. Aaron Allan Family Fund.

Allan was killed in the line of duty July 27 in the 6600 block of South Madison Avenue in Homecroft while attempting to help a motorist who had flipped his car. Allan died after the man he was trying to help fired multiple shots at him. Allen is the first Southport officer to be killed in the line of duty.

Applebee’s guests who wish to participate in the Dining to Donate event need only inform their server when ordering, including “to go” orders.
