Zach Roberts, Columbus East sophomore soccer player

Roberts allowed only one goal in three games in helping lead the Olympians to wins against Floyd Central (3-1), Jennings County (5-0) and Columbus North (3-0) for the Seymour Sectional title. His 10 shutouts is a single-season school record.

His performance last week: “Our first game was really strong. The second game, we struggled a little bit, and then North, we picked up our game and came out with the victory.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I hang out with my friend Rick (Sanchez), and all we do is listen to our pump-up playlist and just hang out.”

Favorite drink: “Vas water”

Favorite food: “Ego waffles”

Favorite book: “The ‘I am No. 4’ series”

Favorite class: “Economics, because I don’t understand it, and it’s hard and it’s challenging”

Role model: “(Manchester United goalkeeper) David D’gea”

Best advice: “From coach (Brad) Barber, ‘Play with passion and confidence.’”

Athletics goal: “Right now, it’s to advance from regional to semistate and from semistate to state.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Italy, to go to the Vatican.”

Tanner Johnson, Columbus North junior soccer player

Johnson scored seven goals last week to lead the Bull Dogs to the Columbus East Sectional title. She netted three goals in a 4-1 win against Greenwood and both North goals in 2-0 wins against Center Grove and Columbus East.

Her performance last week: “It’s probably the most I’ve scored in a week, so it was good.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I listen to some music before I start getting my stuff on, so that gets me pumped up. Then, in the locker room, altogether, we get pumped up with music.”

Favorite drink: “Gatorade”

Favorite food: “Pasta”

Favorite book: “Double Identity”

Favorite class: “English”

Role model: “My dad (Chris Johnson)”

Best advice: “Never give up.”

Athletics goal: “To get to play in college.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’ve always wanted to go to England for some reason.”
