Alyson Hendershot, a fifth-grader at Clifty Creek Elementary School, won the Columbus Fire Department “Fire Prevention Week” Poster Contest.

She receives five tickets to Holiday World & Splashing Safari as a prize.

The poster contest was open to children ages 12 and younger. The Columbus Fire Department asked children to create a poster that highlights the fire prevention theme for 2017: “Every Second Counts — Know 2 Ways Out!” Fire Prevention Week started Sunday and ends today.

Posters were to be created on 8 1/2-inch by 11-inch paper using pen, pencil, colored pencil, crayon or paint.

Judges said they liked how Alyson created her poster from an interior perspective and used it to illustrate what exits are available in a residential setting. The fire department received 97 submissions.
