Man arrested after yelling at store customers, fighting with police

Columbus police arrested a local man after he fought with officers after they responded to a report of a disturbance outside a local store.

Officers were sent to Walgreens, 2400 Beam Road, at 4:45 p.m. Friday about a man screaming at customers, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they found Christopher Murphy, 28, who said he is homeless, sitting on a bench outside the business, Harris said.

Murphy threatened and attempted to fight the officers, causing one of the officers to receive scratches and cuts to his arm, Harris said.

Murphy was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and is being held without bond at the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, intimidation towards a police officer and battery on a public safety officer.
