East wins JV football crown

The Columbus East junior varsity football team wrapped up the Hoosier Hills Conference title after closing the season with a 22-14 win against Bedford North Lawrence 22-14.

Cole Gilley ran for 3- and 1-yard touchdowns, and Thorne Ross ran 10 yards for a score for the Olympians (8-1, 6-0). Gilley threw 2-point conversion passes to Zander Gentry and Colin Phillips.

North JV ends with victory

The Columbus North JV finished its season with a 34-12 win against Southport.

Ethan Rogers ran 31 and four yards for touchdowns, and Giovanni Alejandro ran 72 yards for a score for the Bull Dogs (7-2, 5-2). Zerek Greathouse returned a kickoff 62 yards for a touchdown, and Riley Ables returned an interception 18 yards for a score. Spencer Rivera kicked four extra points.

Club Olympians win events

Club Olympia began its short-course season last week at the Jack Thompson Fall Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.

Nalanie Cortez won all 12 of her events in the 11-12-year-old girls division and finished ninth in the 1,000-yard freestyle with the fourth-fastest time in the country by a 12-and-under girl. Cortez’ times in eight of her 11 events put her in the top 50 in the nation in her age group.

Misha Machavariani won nine of his 10 events for 10-and-under boys and finished 21st in the men’s open 1,000 freestyle. He ranks in the top 50 in the country in six events.

Rachel Sabotin won the women’s open 500 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle and finished second in the open 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley; third in the 100 breaststroke; fifth in the 50 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle; seventh in the 50 butterfly and 200 IM; eighth in the 200 backstroke, ninth in the 100 freestyle; 10th in the 50 backstroke and 11th in the 50 freestyle. She ranks in the top 50 in the nation in four events.

Brady Beyer won the 11-12 boys 200 IM and 500 freestyle and finished second in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly; fourth in the 200 freestyle; seventh in the 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly; 10th in the 100 freestyle and 12th in the 50 freestyle and also took 13th in the men’s open 1,000 freestyle with the fastest time of anyone 12-and-under. He ranks in the top 50 in the country in four events.

Daniella Preston finished third in the 10-and-under girls 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 IM; fifth in the 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle; 11th in the 50 backstroke and 12th in the 100 backstroke.

Zoie Chandelkar, who is swimming unattached until mid-November because of USA Swimming’s transfer rules, finished second in the 8-and-under girls 25 backstroke, 25 butterfly and 25 freestyle and fourth in the 50 freestyle; and in 10-under girls races, was 28th in the 50 butterfly, 31st in the 100 breaststroke, 34th in the 50 backstroke and 36th in the 100 freestyle.

Lovely Panda finished third in the 8-and-under girls 25 breaststroke, eighth in the 25 butterfly, ninth in the 25 freestyle and 15th in the 50 freestyle. in 10-and-under girls events, she took 31st in the 50 butterfly, 35th in the 100 breaststroke 37th in the 50 backstroke and 40th in the 100 freestyle.

Alison Clauss finished fifth in the 10-and-under girls 100 backstroke, seventh in the 50 backstroke, 10th in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle, 14th in the 200 IM, 17th in the 100 butterfly, 18th in the 50 butterfly, 19th in the 100 freestyle, 26th in the 50 breaststroke and 27th in the 100 breaststroke.

Auysh Panda finished sixth in the men’s open 500 freestyle, seventh in the 100 freestyle, 11th in the 100 freestyle, 15th in the 200 freestyle, 20th in the 100 breaststroke, 21st in the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, 25th in the 50 butterfly and 40th in the 100 butterfly.

Maddie Beyer finished fourth in the 10-and-under girls 50 breaststroke; 13th in the 100 breaststroke; 15th in the 200 IM; 16th in the 50 butterfly; 17th in the 50 freestyle and 20th in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.

Pratt Badve finished seventh in the 11-12 boys 100 breaststroke, eighth in the 50 breaststroke, 11th in the 100 backstroke, 14th in the 200 IM, 15th in the 50 backstroke, 17th in the 50 freestyle, 19th in the 200 freestyle, 20th in the 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle and 21st in the 500 freestyle.

Nandini Kondhare finished ninth in the 8-and-under girls 25 butterfly, 14th in the 25 backstroke, 16th in the 25 freestyle and 19th in the 50 freestyle.

Arjun Bhadoria finished 16th in the 11-12 boys 100 backstroke; 19th in the 50 breaststroke; 22nd in the 50 freestyle; 23rd in the 50 backstroke, 200 IM and 500 freestyle; 24th in the 100 breaststroke; 26th in the 50 butterfly and 28th in the 100 freestyle.

Abigail Castillo, swimming unattached because of the transfer rule, finished 27th in the 13-14 girls 500 freestyle, 37th in the 100 butterfly and 200 breaststroke, 38th in the 50 freestyle, 47th in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, 48th in the 100 freestyle, 52nd in the 200 IM. She also was 74th in the 13-and-over girls 50 breaststroke, 75th in the 50 butterfly and 76th in the 50 backstroke.

Aidan Castillo, also swimming unattached until mid-November, finished 30th in the finished 30th in the 11-12 boys 200 freestyle, 33rd in the 50 freestyle, 37th in the 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke, 39th in the 100 breaststroke and 40th in the 100 freestyle.

Maggie Johnson finished 13th in the 13-14 girls 50 freestyle, 16th in the 100 butterfly, 18th in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle, 24th in the 200 backstroke, 26th in the 100 freestyle, 28th in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle and 29th in the 200 IM. She also took 30th in the women’s open 1,000 freestyle and in girls 13-and-over events, was 38th in the 50 butterfly, 41st in the 50 backstroke and 53rd in the 50 breaststroke.

Brooklyn Pendleton finished 32nd in the girls 10-and-under 50 freestyle and 36th in the 100 backstroke. Jahnavi Vanugopal, swimming in her first meet ever, took 17th in the 8-and-under girls 25 backstroke, 18th in the 25 freestyle and 22nd in the 50 freestyle. Jayanth Vanugopal was 28th in the 10-and-under boys 100 backstroke and 31st in the 50 freestyle.

Donner swimmers take wins

Donner Swim Club kicked off its short-course season last weekend at the ACST Fall Classic at Avon High School.

Daniel Utterback won nine events in the 11-12-boys division. He took the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Three Donner swimmers won 15-and-over boys events. Sam Russell took the 200 IM, 200 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke; Nick Green captured the 100 freestyle, 400 IM and 1,600 freestyle; and Evan Patterson won the 100 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

Jennifer Utterback finished second in 15-and-over girls 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, third in the 200 breakststroke and 100 backstroke, fourth in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 500 freestyle.

In the 15-and-over boys age group, Christopher Lee finished third in the 1,650 freestyle and seventh in the 100 backstroke. Michael Lee took fourth in the 200 backstroke and fifth in the 100 backstroke. Ryan Singer was fifth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 100 backstroke. Justin Borowski swam personal-bests in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle.

Riddhi Garg finished third in the 13-14 girls 200 backstroke and 1,650 freestyle; fourth in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle; fifth in the 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke; sixth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 freestyle.

Also in the 13-14 girls age group, Sammi Hoovler finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, fifth in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle. Karissa Miller took fourth in the 200 backstroke and fifth in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Adeline Rush was fifth in the 200 breaststroke, sixth in the 200 backstroke and seventh in the 100 butterfly. Ellie Proffitt finished sixth in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, seventh in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle and eighth in the 200 freestyle.

In the 13-14 boys age group, Thomas McCarrick finished third in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Matthew Goble took seventh in the 100 backstroke, and Jack Tregoning was seventh in the 200 breaststroke.
