Jamon Hogan, Columbus East senior football player

Hogan carried 14 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns Friday to help lead the Olympians to a 63-0 first-round sectional win at Seymour.

His performance last week: “I felt like I was able to do what was needed for my team to get the win.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just get focused and try to make sure I’m doing everything right.”

Favorite drink: “Gatorade”

Favorite food: “Spaghetti and pasta”

Favorite book: “I’m reading this book called ‘The Glass Castle’ in my English class, and that’s pretty good.”

Favorite class: “English”

Role model: “My cousin, (Indianapolis Colts receiver) Krishawn Hogan”

Best advice: “Keep your head up, and always look forward.”

Athletics goal: “To help my team do their best so we can make it all the way back to state.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably California, because I’ve never been, and the views and the weather are pretty good.”

Madie Sherman, Hauser senior volleyball player

Sherman led the Jets with a combined 28 kills and eight blocks and also had seven digs and one ace Saturday in regional wins against Indianapolis Lutheran and Indianapolis Tindley.

Her performance last week: “Considering who we played, and with the things we’ve been learning during practice, I think it went pretty well.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just listen to music and pump myself up through my music.”

Favorite drink: “Red Cream Soda”

Favorite food: “Burritos”

Favorite book: “‘It’ by Stephen King”

Favorite class: “Government”

Role model: “The past volleyball players that have played here. I’ve looked up to them.”

Best advice: “From (coach Jeff Case), he would say, ‘Just do better and always prepare for the next play.”

Athletics goal: “To go as far as we can in this sport.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I would go to Paris just to see the Eiffel Tower and see how beautiful it is.”
