Clella Ann “Susie” Lopp

SALEM

Mrs. Clella Ann “Susie” Lopp, age 100, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus.

She was born May 7, 1917 in Laconia, Indiana to James T. and Allie Pitman Shields.

In 1941, she married Howard “Doc” Lopp. They moved to Salem and she assisted him in his veterinary practice.

As a member of Salem Presbyterian Church, she attended faithfully and enjoyed the fellowship of the church family throughout her long life.

She was a member of Tri Kappa, active and inactive chapters.

Susie enjoyed cooking and playing bridge and visits from her grandchildren.

She created a comfortable home where family and friends wanted to go. She thought her dining table was never quite big enough, but her expanding family continued to gather around it for holiday and birthday celebrations.

She dedicated her life to her family and passes on a legacy of love treasured by all.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Sharon Gratz (George) of Columbus and Nancy Bowles (Stephen) of Indianapolis; brother, Trewhitt Shields of Decatur, Alabama; sister-in-law, Grace Shields of Anderson, Indiana; grandchildren, Linda Bawel (Zach), Nicholas Bowles (Christa), Jay Bowles (Elizabeth); step-grandson, Derik Gratz (Rachel); 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of 55 years, Howard “Doc” Lopp; grandson, Eric Luse; and her brothers, Derrill and J.D. Shields; and sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Shields and Dorothy Shields.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions can be made to Washington County Community Foundation, Salem Presbyterian Church Fund or the donor’s choice of charity.
