Poetry Out Loud deadline nears for high school

The deadline is approaching for Indiana high schools to register for the 2018 Poetry Out Loud competition.

The deadline for Indiana schools to participate in the state recitation process is Nov. 30. Preliminary competition is held at the individual school level to determine the school’s representative to the state final competition, which will be held Feb. 17 at the Indiana State Library.

The state champion receives a $200 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Poetry Out Loud national finals in April, while the state champion’s school receives a $500 stipend to purchase poetry books, according to a news release.

For more information on the competition and how to register, visit the Indiana State Library website at in.gov/library/5580.htm. Information on the National Poetry Out Loud program and competition can be found at poetryoutloud.org.
