Donate canned goods at food drive to be sheriff for day

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department will offer a special day for the person donating the most items to the department’s Third Annual Pack-a-Patrol Car food drive.

The person will get a glimpse into a day in the life of Sheriff Matt Myers by becoming an honorary sheriff for a day, on a date to be determined by mutual agreement between the winner and the sheriff. On that day, the honorary sheriff will shadow Myers beginning at 8 a.m., including a tour of the jail, meeting the staff and having lunch.

There is no age restriction.

Nonperishable food items may be dropped off in the department lobby through Nov. 14, but donors who want their items tracked will need to check in with each donation at the front desk between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Final call for food drop-offs is 5 p.m. Nov. 14.

Financial contributions may be dropped off or mailed to Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, 543 Second St., Columbus, IN 47201-6713, and pack a Pack-a-Patrol Car should be marked on the check. Each $1 donated will count as two canned food items.

All contributions will be delivered to Love Chapel’s Food Pantry, 311 Center St., and the Salvation Army, 2525 Illinois Ave.

Tammy Johnson, the sheriff department’s Pack-a-Patrol Car coordinator, will determine the winner.
