Volunteers sought to provide tax help

United Way of Bartholomew County is seeking volunteers to serve as tax preparers and greeters for the VITA/AARP Tax Assistance programs, offered from February to April.

Last year’s programs served more than 1,000 Bartholomew County residents and saved local taxpayers more than $95,000 in fees.

Students, retirees, finance professionals or anyone with an interest in financial wellness is encouraged to volunteer by calling Bonnie Morrison at United Way of Bartholomew County at 812-375-2214 or emailing [email protected].

The programs offer free tax help to Bartholomew County residents, those with disabilities, the elderly and limited-English speaking taxpayers who need help preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

The assistance sites will open locally in February.
