Harlem Wizards to play local team in Columbus

The Harlem Wizards basketball team will play the Bartholomew County School Foundation Stars, a team of teachers, principals, administrators and community members, at 2 p.m. today at Columbus North High School.

Former Indiana Fever star Tamika Catchings and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. superintendent Jim Roberts will be the coaches. Doors open at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $12 at the door.

Volleyball club plans tryouts at Hauser

Tryouts for HAVOC club volleyball will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Hauser main gym and 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Hauser fieldhouse for grades 5 to 8; and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the main gym and 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15 in the fieldhouse for Grades 9 to 12.

HAVOC also will conduct a winter camp for students in kindergarten through Grade 4 from Jan. 3 to Feb. 28. Cost is $45 and includes a camp shirt and tournament.

Love Chapel will benefit from 5K on Turkey Day

The 5K on Turkey Day will feature 5K and 10K races at 8 a.m. Nov. 23 beginning and ending at the Armory, 2160 Arnold St., Columbus.

Columbus North seniors Madelyn Sanders and Claire Malone are putting on this year’s fourth annual event for their senior project.

Cost is $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K, plus a five-can minimum donation, with proceeds benefiting the Love Chapel.
