Police arrest local man on weapons charges

Columbus police arrested a local man on weapons charges after he was observed at his job with a handgun.

Police were sent to the business in the 1300 block of Indiana Avenue at 1 p.m. Tuesday where they recovered the weapon and located the individual, Kenneth D. Wood, 52, at his residence in the 600 block of Hutchins Avenue, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers confirmed Wood did not have a permit for the weapon and he was arrested on charges of carrying a handgun without a license, possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, Harris said.

When officers confiscated the weapon, they noticed the serial numbers had been scraped off the handgun, Harris said.
