North falls in band competition

The Sound of North Marching Band from Columbus North High School concluded its 2017 competitive season during Music for All’s Bands of America Grand National Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The North band placed 21st among 50 bands competing in the first day of preliminary competition on Thursday. North, a Class AAA band, was fifth in its class on Thursday.

North scored 80.325 points out of a possible 100 with an average of 15.850 in music performance, 15.675 in visual performance, and 48.800 in general effect.

Another 50 bands competed on Friday’s second day of preliminaries, with the 37 top-scoring bands from the two days of preliminaries advancing to Saturday’s semi-finals.

Twelve bands, three from Indiana, made Saturday night’s finals. Carmel was the overall winner with a score of 97.500; Avon was third at 96.475; and Castle was eighth at 91.200.
