Robert H. McDonley, 84, of Columbus, died on Friday, November 17, 2017, at 8:59 a.m. at his residence.

Mr. McDonley was a United States Air Force veteran where he was an instrumentation specialist. He retired from General Motors after 35 years as a skilled tradesman. He was a member of Garden City Church of Christ, the church choir, and the Garden City Church of Christ Gold Harvesters, and was a Shriner. He enjoyed being a part of the Monday night church bowling league, camping with his wife and family in younger years, and loved to sing and listen to music. A very family-oriented person, he loved playing cards with his family and spending time with them.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Garden City Church of Christ with Brian Gilroy officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to time of service Tuesday at the church.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Garden City Church of Christ Gold Harvesters.

Robert was born on April 7, 1933 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, the son of Orvil McDonley and Ruth T. Rice McDonley Patterson.

On July 16, 1954, he married Carolyn J. Brown.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Carolyn J. McDonley of Columbus; children, David (Donna) McDonley of Waynesburg, Rita McDonley of Columbus, and Tawnya (Ken) Sonnemaker of Indianapolis; Grandchildren, Candace (Dwight) Luttrell, Magen Welch, Joshua (Allene) Richardson, and Hanna Richardson; Great-Grandchildren, Sophie and Zoe Shafer and Andy Luttrell; Sister, Sue Stodghill of Madison; and a cousin, Linda Root of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Step-father, James Patterson; sister, Martha Cole; and a grandson, Travis McDonley.
