Run in Santa suit for 5K

The Columbus Meridian Kiwanis and Foundation for Youth are sponsoring a Holiday Fun Run that offers the only local opportunity for runners to compete in a Santa suit.

The 5K run at 9 a.m. Dec. 2 is a fundraiser to support Foundation for Youth’s Girls on the Run and Trailblazers programs, which are focused on building confidence and healthy habits for young people. The program focuses on making friendships, celebrating uniqueness and training to complete a 5K race.

Proceeds from the Holiday Fun Run pay for scholarships for students who can’t afford registration fees for the programs.

The race begins at Foundation for Youth, 405 Hope Ave., and continues on the People Trail along Central Avenue, across the State Street Bridge and continuing to City Hall, where runners turn around and return to FFY.

Lightweight Santa suits, available for $5 on a first-come, first-serve basis, are offered the day of the race for the first 80 people who want to run in classic holiday running apparel.

Cost is $20 to register for the race until Tuesday, when the price increases to the day-of-race price of $25. To register, visit foundationforyouth.com/programs/fitness.

Race day registration is at Foundation for Youth from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., with the run or walk beginning at 9 a.m.
