Don J. Law

INDIANAPOLIS

Don J. Law, 83, of Indianapolis, a former Columbus resident, died 4:37 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017, at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Don was born in Fort Wayne on September 22, 1934, the son of Stanley E. and Hildreth Simon Law, and grew up on the family farm in Roanoke.

He married Carol “Joan” Petro November 9, 1984 in Gatlin, Tennessee; she preceded him in death November 18, 2010.

He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1952.

He served as a flight crew member on a B-26 in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He graduated from I.U. in 1963 with a degree in marketing and finance.

He worked for Cummins Engine Company for over 25 years.

He was a former member of First Christian Church in Columbus, the I.U. Varsity Club, and served as a director for the Columbus Go Kart Club in 1974.

He was a longtime Lady Bulldogs basketball fan and loved woodworking and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Don is survived by daughters, Kimberly (Brad) McIntyre of Corvallis, Oregon and Debbie (Jamie) Marr of Columbus; sons, Donald Law of Waterloo and Roger (Paula) Law of Greenwood; stepdaughter, Kimberly (Bob) Bennett of Columbus, stepson, Troy Smith of Bloomington; grandchildren, Nick Smith of Columbus, Ashley McIntyre of Santa Rosa, California, Shelby McIntyre Los Angeles, California, Gage Law of Waterloo and Justin Law of Greenwood; brothers, Dale (Sue) Law and Wendell (Emily) Law, both of Columbia City, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Rachael Smith; sister, Mary June Doster, and brothers, Kenneth and Mike Law.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon Thursday until the service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
