Warren Dale Hawkins, Sr.

WESTPORT

Warren Dale Hawkins Sr., 71, of Westport, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 5:36 p.m. at his residence.

He was born October 3, 1946 in Martinsville, the son of William Richard and Edith Mae (Hawkins) Hawkins Sr.

He lived in Gnaw Bone until age 5 when they moved to Columbus. A year later they moved to Waymansville; he lived there approximately 10 years until they moved up on the White River just outside of Columbus.

When he was married, they moved to Waynesville for two years, then Grammer for a couple of years and lastly moved to Alert in June of 1973.

Warren attended Columbus North High School and retired in April of 2008 from Rockwell Automation after 40 years of service.

He was a member of the Alert United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and a Sunday school superintendent.

He enjoyed playing the guitar and playing cards with his family, working in the yard, being outside and studying the Bible.

He married Marjorie Ferguson in Gainsboro, Tennessee on October 5, 1964 and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughters, Shelia (Phillip) Skinner of Alert and Lorie (Roger) Williams of St. Paul; son, Warren (Lynn) Hawkins, Jr of North Vernon, sisters, Phyllis Gabbard and Beverly Ballard both of Columbus, Debbie Schmidt of Booneville and Cindy Carmichael of Bloomfield; brother, William Hawkins Jr. of Seymour; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brenda Gale Hawkins; sister, Catherine Baker and brother, David Hawkins.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Alert United Methodist Church with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating. A graveside service will take place following at 11 a.m. at the Bear Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Gideon’s Memorial Bible Program.
