Honor society donates to emergency shelter

A leadership honor society at Ivy Tech Community College in Columbus has donated items to an emergency housing shelter in the area.

The Columbus chapter of Ivy Tech’s National Society of Leadership and Success has donated 120 welcome bags and 144 pairs of socks to the Brighter Days Housing emergency housing shelter, which provides shelter and housing assistance to homeless residents in Bartholomew County. The welcome bags included essential toiletries and a pen and pad of paper for journaling.

“This project is helping our students realize how fortunate they are as well as giving them an opportunity to share a vision with others on campus and in the community,” said Theresa Wirth, adviser to the Columbus chapter of the NSLS.

Bethel Holiness Church, Trinity Lutheran School robotics class, Ivy Tech Columbus ASAP faculty and students, the Caring Place, Edinburgh Methodist Church and the Ivy Tech School of Nursing all donated items to help the organization make the welcome bags.
