Joy Elaine Jones, 89, of Westport, passed away at 8:21 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on February 8, 1928 in Westport, the daughter of J. Neal and Edith M. (Burgess) Jessup.

She was a lifelong resident of Westport.

Joy was a loving and caring person who loved the Lord and others because of her faith.

She graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1946 and from Taylor University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education.

She was a teacher in the Decatur County School System for 44 years.

She was a member of the Westport United Methodist Church where she had served as the financial secretary and was also a Sunday School pianist.

She was also a member of the United Methodist Women where she had served as president.

Joy and her husband, Harold, were founding members of the ARC of Decatur County where she served as a former board member. She had also served as secretary for the ARC for 18 years and also served as a board member of DSI.

She enjoyed music and traveling.

She married Harold A. Jones on May 24, 1954 in Westport. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2006.

Survivors include her sons, Trent Jones and Brian Jones, both of Westport; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Snodgrass officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 4 until 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Westport United Methodist Church or the ARC of Decatur County.
