Dwight A. Acton

COLUMBUS

Dwight A. Acton, 70, of Columbus, passed from this life at 8:34 a.m. Sunday, December 24, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Acton retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1999 after 34 years of service and Celadon Dedicated Services in 2013 after 14 years of service as plant manager of the Seymour and Jonesville plants.

Dwight was a sports enthusiast and he enjoyed fishing, flower gardening, NASCAR, bird watching and playing video games.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

The funeral will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.

Family and friends may call from 3:30 p.m. to time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home.

In keeping with Mr. Acton’s wishes, cremation is planned following the service.

A graveside inurnment service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Garland Brook Mausoleum Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana.

Mr. Acton was born June 29, 1947, in Columbus. He was the son of Richard L. and Mary Plummer Acton.

Survivors include his children, Todd Acton of Columbus and Amber (Brad) Potts of Columbus; grandchildren, Lilly Wilson, Haylee Acton, McKenzie Acton, Hayden Fonner, Carson Fonner, Brennan Potts and Easton Potts; his brother, William Acton of Seymour; and his stepsiblings, John (Renda) Lozar Jr., Teresa (Joe) Mathey, Michael (Sharon) Lozar, Cathy (Ken) Wiggins and Angela (George) Bredestege.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. Acton; his mother, Mary Plummer Acton Lozar; and his stepfather, John Lozar.
