Robert “Wayne” Dampier peacefully passed away December 23, 2017, under the care of Americare Hospice, surrounded by his family

Wayne was born March 7, 1949, in Hog Jaw, Alabama. He proudly served in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War as a mechanic. He retired from Columbus City Utilities in 2008. He spent two years traveling the country in his fifth wheel.

He was a member of Risen Savior Bible Church and Columbus Moose Lodge. He loved spending time with his large family. He was always happiest when he had a houseful, laughing and joking with everyone. He definitely never met a stranger. He loved fishing, traveling and watching old westerns.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Hearne officiating. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Robert is survived by his wife, Terena Dampier of Franklin; three sons, Michael (Charlotte) McFarland of Hope, IN, Robert M. (Heather) Young of Augusta, Maine, and Thomas W. (Sarah) Ross of Columbus; four daughters, Cheryl L. (Marshall) Lucas of North Vernon, Robin L. (Jeremy) Ogle of Columbus, Emily E. (Tony) Craig of Seymour, and Mindy S. (Nate) Hall of Elizabethtown; three brothers, Calvin J. (Garnet) Dampier of Columbus, Billy Ray Dampier of Shelbyville, and Bart Dampier of Columbus; one sister, Kimberly Christy of Columbus; 26 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Cathy Klakamp, and a sister, Faye N. Julian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Americare Hospice of Franklin, Indiana.
