Volunteer for King holiday work groups

Volunteer opportunities are available in Columbus Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day to Serve. It is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers and create solutions to social problems by moving closer to King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”

Joy King, community engagement manager for the United Way of Bartholomew County, said 44 volunteers are being sought for the following Monday work projects:

  • Turning Point Domestic Violence Services, assemble educational folders on domestic violence, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; seven volunteers needed.
  • San Souci, organize store donations and sort clothing, 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m.; 10 volunteers needed for each of the two shifts.
  • Love Chapel Food Pantry, work in food pantry, unload truck, clean up warehouse, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 12 volunteers needed.
  • Brighter Days Shelter, help out at the shelter and clean the facility, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., five volunteers needed.
