United Way to offer help in income tax filing

United Way of Bartholomew County will offer free income tax filing to Bartholomew County residents through the VITA and AARP programs starting Monday and running through the filing season.

Interested residents should dial 2-1-1 to schedule a filing appointment, with reservations taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Last year’s Free Income Tax Assistance served more than 1,000 local residents and collectively saved residents more than $96,000 in taxpayer fees.

The programs offer free tax filings to Bartholomew County residents who make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their own tax returns.
