Report of suspicious vehicle leads to arrest

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies made an arrest after checking out a report of suspicious people in a vehicle at the Interstate 65 rest park.

Deputy Sgt. Kris Weisner went to the area and found two people and the vehicle in the southbound rest park at about 12:20 a.m. Thursday, deputies said. Both had warrants out for their arrest.

Indiana State Troopers Jacob Tolle, who was assisting with trooper Derrik Eggers, saw drug-related paraphernalia on the driver’s-side floorboard and K9 Bolt alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle, deputies said.

Sarah O. Callon, 27, of 750 Johnson Ave., Franklin, was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, where she was being held there in lieu of $5,000 bond, jail officials said.

The second individual — Daniel S. Shuffitt, 36, of Columbus — told officers he was not feeling well and was transported by ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital, where he was reported Thursday afternoon in stable condition. Because of his medical condition, Shuffitt was not immediately booked into jail, deputies said.
