Two arrested on drug-related charges after routine probation visit

A routine probation visit led to the arrest of two men after a search warrant was served at their home.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Martoccia went to the 100 block of South Cherry Street in Columbus with probation officers for a routine home visit for Roger K. Burton, 53, 112 S. Cherry St. and Bradley K. Burton, 28, who also lives at the Cherry Street address, deputies said.

A man ran from the residence when Martoccia arrived, although the person on probation, Roger K. Burton, answered the door and allowed the deputy and probation officers inside, deputies said.

When inside, officers found 2 pounds of marijuana, baggies, cash and other drug-related paraphernalia, deputies said.

Roger K. Burton was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, probation violations and maintaining a common nuisance, deputies said.

He is being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
