Student-aid application assistance available

The event will be 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 as part of College Goal Sunday at the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Ave. Students who plan to attend college must file a FAFSA to be considered for federal and state grants. The state filing deadline is April 15, although some colleges request earlier filing deadlines for priority consideration for scholarships.

Applicants need to bring a federal student aid identification number (available at fsaid.ed.gov), Social Security number, driver’s license, 2016 W-2 forms, proof of untaxed income, a 2016 federal income tax return, bank statements and business and investment information.

Student who attend College Goal Sunday and complete an evaluation form will be entered to win one of five $1,000 scholarships, with notifications in April. The scholarship money is sent directly to the college selected by the winning student.
