Dewey ‘Bob’ Hadley

Dewey “Bob” Hadley, 82, of Columbus, passed from this life at 7:47 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Department.

Mr. Hadley was born March 6, 1935, in Russell Springs, Kentucky, the son of Maurice and Wanna Stearman Hadley.

On November 24, 1955, he married Janice A. Barkes; she preceded him in death March 13, 1998.

Mr. Hadley retired from Cummins Engine Company in May 1988.

He was a member and former deacon and treasurer at the Bethel Baptist Church, and he enjoyed membership in the Columbus Area Rodders Car Club.

A sports enthusiast, Mr. Hadley especially liked basketball and was an avid Purdue University fan. He followed local sports and knew many of the local athletes and he was known to say that he was always a “Bulldog.”

He had been a volunteer during Hurricane Hugo in the Carolinas and for the Fireman’s Cheer Fund.

Mr. Hadley is survived by his children, Cheryl (Jesse) Caudill of Columbus and Michael Hadley of Noblesville; his granddaughters, Kinzie Caudill of Columbus and Angelique Hadley of Noblesville; sisters, Dorothy Beaver of Columbus and Barbara (David) Baker of Palestine, Texas; brothers-in-law, Tom (Barbara) Barkes of Gray, Tennessee and John (Beulah) Barkes of Westerville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hadley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice; and brothers, David and Jim Hadley.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Adam Carrigan officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday.

Burial will be at Ohio Chapel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department.
