Sophomores plan another comedy hypnosis show

Jennings County High School’s sophomore class conducted a fundraiser on Oct. 27 unlike any previously at the high school. T.G. Rivers performed a comedy hypnosis show, and ticket profits went to the class.

In light of the success of the event, the sophomores are having another hypnosis show at 7 p.m. March 9 in the Jennings County High School auditorium, 800 W. Walnut St. in North Vernon. Tickets are $10.

The sophomores expect even greater attendance this time. Eric Wernke, the sophomore class sponsor, said that the first show sold about 140 tickets, but the second show is expected to sell nearly 300.

Wernke added that when he pitched the idea of this type of fundraiser to the sophomore class officers, he said that the first show would probably not sell that many tickets, but the second show definitely would. The reason for this, he said, was that people would be skeptical of such an event, and would be reluctant to go to something that they know so little about.

But after students saw pictures and videos from the comedy hypnosis show, many expressed an interest in attending if another one was scheduled.

For this reason, Wernke conducted a student survey to see how many students wanted to go in the future. The response was that 183 students of the 203 surveyed were interested in seeing the show. While this helped cement the idea of a second show in place, the sophomore class had already anticipated having another show.
